News from Belgium

On June 30th & July 1st 2022 70 tunnel safety officers and tunnel managers from all over the world attended the 6th bi-annual TSO Forum. The 6th TSO Forum was organized by the Committee on Operational Safety of Underground Facilities (COSUF) of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA), in co-operation with the Belgium Representative of the AG4, the Government of Flanders, the European Commission and the World Road Association (PIARC).

The central theme, tunnel refurbishment, was highlighted by relevant presentations, workshops and lively discussions. The forum was hosted by Professor Arnold Dix the newly elected president of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA), who did a fantastic job of facilitating it. Promat was represented by two regional tunnel managers. This forum was an ideal opportunity to expand knowledge, but above all to feel what is going on in the tunnel safety officers community.

The forum did not only take place in Brussels, but also in Antwerp where we visited a tunnel and got an extensive presentation of the works in progress for the Oosterweel link.
