Products from Promat’s extensive range have been combined to create a comprehensive passive fire protection solution for a major new £350 million retail development in Leeds.
Working in tandem with various other involved parties, Promat was able to suggest combinations of its passive fire protection products which could be used to protect different aspects of the new Trinity Leeds development. This included the structural steelwork and the many areas where building services penetrate walls, floors and other fire barriers.
The full protection package includes 20,000 m2 PROMATECT®-250 for structural steel columns, and 40,000 m2 Promat TD Board® for steel beams. Fire stopping requirements were addressed using various products from the Promat PROMASEAL® range, while SUPALUX® was specified for windpost protection and VERMICULUX® for various concrete soffits.
The combination of product quality and fire tested interface details, enabled Promat UK to play a key role in the products being chosen for Trinity Leeds. Together with the expertise previously gained through working on similar large-scale retail projects, they helped ensure that we could provide the most robust and effective solutions possible for this project.
One of the key concerns on a project such as this is the need to ensure reliable protection at the various interface points where different types of fire protection products meet.
As with any system, the integrity of a building is only as good as its weakest point. We were able to take a holistic approach to the protection and supply a full range of robust, third-party accredited solutions that protect all aspects of the building.
When it is completed in spring 2013, Trinity Leeds will transform a large section of the city centre and provide over 1 million square feet of shopping space. It will include more than 120 modern, flexible retail units ranging from 100 to 100,000 sq ft and will house some of the biggest national and international retail names.
