Relic of a flourishing industrial past, the former factory of knitted cotton Lehmann Brothers of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, is under refurbishment since late 2013. A second life for a building that will be used to host a multidisciplinary arts centre.
The main challenge of this project was to ensure fire protection of the place without impacting the aesthetic of the vault. Last but not least, the solution offered had to be lightweight enough to not weigh down the vault, while maintaining the sophitsticated industrial style of the place.
The major constraint of this renovation was to ensure that the products used do not increase the structural weight of the vault, while maintaining the site's industrial look. Problematic thus imposed to resort to conciliatory solutions technical and aesthetic characteristics.
That is why Promat has recommanded the use of a spray solution. Thanks to its lightweight vermiculite and plaster water-mix based composition, PROMASPRAY®-P300, specifically design to fire protect concrete structure, was the best offer to reply to the above mentionned requirements. Compared to board, spray applied solution are also very efficient to adapt the fire protection layer to each kind of shape or design. Consequently, the original form of the vault has been preserved whilst the structure has been REI 60min fire protected (solution provided is certified by a European approval.)
The installation teams were also faced to challenging issues. Indeed, the vault, the locatiion of the vault as a height of 3 to 5m made the installation of the product quite difficult.
Fortunately, applying PROMASPRAY®-P300 (in accordance with DTU 27.2) is easy, simple and fast: this made easier the work for installers and guaranteed a fast implementation.
Best of all, SIDAIRLESS decorative coating has been applied. In fact, DWPA architect agency stil had in mind the aestetical aspect so that the area has been painted with a mastic reflets colour. That helped to ensure a perfect consistency to the overall internal structure. A very specific demand that allowed Promat to demonstrate its incredible customer oriented, cutting-edge and expert service and solution.
